Missions at St. Peter’s
Food Pantry
St. Peter’s hosts a once a month food pantry on the third Wednesday of each month. The public may contact the church office to apply for assistance, or apply on any day the food pantry is held. Volunteer opportunities are available to assist with this ministry
Kairos Prison Ministry
Kairos Prison Ministry is an international ministry of volunteers bringing the gospel message to incarcerated individuals. Their mission is the message of God’s love and redemption through Jesus by words and deeds. Twice a year, a three-day event called “Kairos Weekend” is held in the prison that includes instruction and prayer. Volunteers may continue their ministry by meeting with “Kairos Graduate” prisoners on a weekly basis at the prison for Prayer and Share gatherings. We support this ministry in various ways by being Kairos Weekend volunteers in the prison, while others participate in prayer vigils on the outside. Our church has been active in this outreach to bring the Gospel of God’s love and redemption to the forgotten in prison and takes its inspiration in particular from Matthew 25:36 “…when I was in prison, you visited me…”
Children and Youth Christmas Project
In December, St. Peter’s joins with the local Children and Youth Division of Fayette County to provide selected families with Christmas gifts and food for those in need.
Recovery Meeting Space
Local AA and NA chapters conduct frequent support meetings in the lower level of the Parish House. Contact your local chapter of AA or NA for meeting dates and times.
Reach Mission Trips
This is a national, week-long mission of service to low-income communities. Working with local agencies and/or local churches, these mission trips seek to make an impact on homeowners, communities, students and adults who attend. It is a life-changing experience as campers participate in activities that build community and self-esteem, encourages spiritual growth, and enables them to understand their role in combating poverty. Reach strives to be the industry leader by providing the highest quality Christian mission trips for middle school and high school youth groups. St. Peter’s has participated in this mission since 1999. Youth from 6th to 12th grades are eligible to participate in this program, along with adult volunteers.
Samaritan’s Purse “Operation Christmas Child”
St. Peter’s regularly participates in this annual project for Samaritan’s Purse. Our annual collection drive is held between August and October, with a Packing Party held the week before the annual National Collection Week in November. This international ministry is to assist children who will benefit from receiving the shoebox gifts, but more importantly hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Cards and Cookies
This is an annual event held in early December to write Christmas cards to our Parish sick and shut-ins. A light meal is served, with participants providing cookies for dessert.
